Can I use an alias of a note in one collection in another collection?

That is, I’d like to keep one master copy of a note that can be used in multiple collections. I have a lot of content I’d like to re-purpose in various ways, while keeping one definitive copy up to date.

Is this possible with Notenik?

Welcome! Thanks for joining our discussion forum!

You might try the include functionality to see if this will do what you need.

If not, then perhaps you could provide a bit more detail about how you might envision such a thing working?

Thanks.

Ah! That might do it. I was thinking about an alias in the Mac file system and wondering how such a file would be treated by Notenik.

I’m creating a master Guide on a topic, which will be updated over time. But I’d like to be able to take (updated) snippets from it to share in various ways, for example a blog post or a social media post. I may tweak and re-post the latter, and I’d like to make sure that wherever there is a quote from the Guide, that the most up-to-date version will be included. If I just copy, references and quotes will become out of date.

But I think the include functionality will work if it can reach across collections. I’ll need to play with exporting and publishing. I haven’t gotten to that step yet.

I just discovered Notenik today, and I’m so impressed! It’s virtually impossible to find an outliner that can work on top of a set of markdown notes files. PKM apps like Obsidian or Logseq aren’t sufficient.

The clear way Notenik deals with metadata is also so handy! Just the other day I was lamenting I couldn’t add metadata to image files in the Finder, specifically to save image credits for stock photos. I can probably use Notenik for this, too.

I see there is wiki link functionality across collections as well.

Glad to be here. Thanks for making this app!

Glad to have you here!

Sounds like you have some interesting projects going on.

Let me know if there’s something not working quite right for you, or something that can be improved.

BTW, to be clear, Notenik will not currently resolve an alias to another file as part of a collection.
