I was wondering how anyone was using the Daily Notes starter packs.
Right now I’m experimenting with a Daily Notes in Subfolders setup. I have it set as my General Notes collection.
So far it’s been useful as a way to get things down quick. Emergent thoughts, tasks, links, and what not. I’ve done this before, but was in the habit of putting too much information in them and never returning.
I’ve always kept a main collection for more topically robust notes, except over time it would atrophy due to the attention paid to the “fleeting notes”. I also keep a separate directory of Markdown notes with by the zk tool. Doing anything in a terminal feels important. But that too is an unwieldy precinct.
So right now I use the Daily Notes as a record of short term interests and leads. I use a Flagged
boolean field to mark important notes. Usually anything that I assign a Date to. Anything else that’s actionable is recorded in a collection that really ought to become the Essential one by now. But I may reserve that.
I’m quick to stash and pave a collection, start fresh and slowly propagate old notes into a new collection. But I think the setup I’m running with right now is the most productive.
