Notenik 16.8.3 Available for Beta Testing on May 8th, 2025

This new beta incorporates a couple of changes I’ve made recently in my development version.

This beta version is no longer available. Look for a later beta release or the most recent Mac App Store release.

The “Notenik URL Find Command” is potentially very useful. I was wondering if you could make a version that works with relative paths. My use case is for bookmarks in a Notenik collection for folders that I store in the Cloud and being able to access them from different computers. The absolute paths of the folders change but the relative paths stay the same. If the folder doesn’t host a Notenik collection, then a relative path link allows one to open the folder in a single step. If it hosts a Notenik collection, then it is currently a two-step process, open the collection and then open the containing folder.

Let me look into this.

Try the new beta and let me know how this works for you!

Could you tell me the format for the relative link paths that the find command accepts? I tried “notenik://find?path=./../../FolderA” and variations of this it didn’t seem to work.

Here’s what worked for me:

notenik://find?path=../Test%20Collection%202

I got it to work and can see what caused it to fail initially. My collection is in a “notes” subfolder. The relative link for a link field seems to work relative to the parent folder (which is great because it allows one to drag and drop files and folders from the parent folder into the Notenik window and create bookmarks), whereas the find command’s relative link seems to work relative to the “notes” folder.

Thanks for adding this feature!

Yes, since custom urls are designed to be triggered from anywhere, and not only used within Notenik, the issue for relative paths is: relative to what? So I ended up making the resolution relative to the location of the last note file accessed.
