Should Tags and Outlines follow the Display Settings for List

I’d assume that Tags and Outlines would take on the same CSS settings as List.

At present they do not and I cannot see a way to style them in the Display Settings.

I understand your expectation, and it’s a reasonable one. However, I’ve also had a request from @wgrace to display the Seq field using a font with monospaced digits: another reasonable expectation. On the List tab, however, each field is displayed in a separate column. On the Outline tab, though, both fields are displayed in a single column, so if I apply the System monoDigits font (which I’m currently doing), then the same font is used for seq and title, and I don’t have a way to apply different fonts to the two different fields. So we’re a little stuck here. Not sure of a perfect resolution.

Is there a middle ground? In the List tab, I don’t have an entirely different font for the numbers, but the same font with tabular figures, as opposed to a completely monospaced font.

Notably, it is not just the sequence column, but the full note title uses this.

This means I have to select a font that supports tabular figures. See Times New Roman as an example that doesn’t, and sequence 2.1.1 to 2.1.3 that has figures in the note title itself:

Times New Roman

Verdana

Charter

It’s just a small visual discrepancy. I’ve only noticed it because I’m frequently switching from the list view to outline when I open a collection.

I recall @wgrace requesting a font that provided a better display for seq. It seemed sensible to me too. The introduction of outline view adds something new. It’s definitely changed my behaviour. I prefer it for most of my work. I’m treating LIST as “expand all” and switching back to outline view when I’m done.

Maybe a checkbox option for monodigit enthusiasts which overrides the font choices for those displays?

If I read correctly, you want the Outline display to use the same styling as the List display?

I think we can both have our cake, so to speak.

If the Outline mode took on the same styling as the List mode, I still get my tabular figures.

To elaborate, I have no problem with needing to select a font that supports tabular figures, I don’t need a forced monospaced font – which is not what seems to happen currently, in any case.

Thanks for all the very helpful feedback! See the latest beta and let me know how this works for everyone!
