Notenik 15.0.1 Available for Beta Testing on August 12th, 2024

This beta adds an optional Outline tab, that can appear to the right of the Tags tab, in line with recent discussion about Seq, Level and Tags.

Look beneath the Collection menu for an option to Show/Hide Outline Tab to enable this feature, or to disable it.

This new feature is certainly not done, and this new version may still have bugs related to associated refactoring, but I think it’s far enough along that I’d like to start getting some design feedback from interested users about the new feature.

So try it out and let me know what you think. If you find bugs, let me know. Thanks!

This beta version is no longer available. Look for a later beta release or the most recent Mac App Store release.

I wasn’t a part of the original conversations that led to this development, but I can confirm that I downloaded the beta version, and the Outline view is in the menu, and once toggled, the Outline tab shows up. At first look, it looks awesome! I think mostly, this looks like it will help me clean up my own indexing. I am trying out a legal numbering/bullet and the Outline view is showing what I expected to be collapsible, and it feels right so far!

Edit: I actually don’t know the first thing about testing, or what would be helpful, so if there’s anything I should be looking for, or any expected behavior/functionality that I can confirm, please just let me know.

Well, you’ve already supplied some useful feedback, by saying that it works as expected, and looks awesome! This is definitely some of what I’m looking for. But also anything you can find that doesn’t work as expected would be useful. But be careful! There are certainly some bugs, so be sure you’re not relying on the beta to preserve critical data. But given that caveat, anything else you can do will likely be useful. Thanks!

This is a great new feature and a welcome addition to Notenik! Everything seems to be working well in some very preliminary testing.

Fantastic

I can’t see myself turning this setting off.

No problems yet, though I’ve only had it in use for 15 minutes.

As this is likely to be the standard view for working with outline collections  it would be great to have all the goodies that we’re accustomed to from the list view.

I think this is a great start!

Its a bit of a hobby horse of mine, but the first thing I’d ask for, is for the numerals to be tabular instead of proportional.

OK that’s helpful! I’ll stick with my regular Notenik from the App Store for my usual stuff, and keep the beta Notenik in the downloads folder and use that only for testing this outline feature out. Thank you! The outline tab is so far really helpful, it operates the way my brain thinks. So between the outline tab, and the wiki and back links, I’m able to jump around to notes that are fairly distant to one another easily. This is great.
