The log says that it was trying to open the template at a url of
file:///Users/malcolm/Library/Mobile%20Documents/iCloud~com~powersurgepub~notenik~shared/Documents/FileMaker/notes/template.md. Does this look right? Or is the URL somehow pointing to the wrong location? -
Do you have this location set up with iCloud so that it only downloads files to your Mac as needed, or is it set up to keep all of your files stored locally on your Mac?

What app do you have set to open Markdown files?
I believe the answer to what is going on here will depend on your three answers to these questions.
